RokuRemote Released

Well might as well start this blog with a bang!

I have been developing an iPod Touch/iPhone remote application to control Roku music devices and it has finally been accepted by apple today for release.

So far feedback has been great!

Does this app allow you to control presets and playback Internet Radio streams in addition to the Playlists, Artists, and Albums view? Hard to see from the screenshots on iTunes.

Thanks!

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.

Tim – I grab album artwork using the amazon.com api. This seemed more reasonable than having the application download each song that is played from the server and then have to parse it for the image data.

Kit – The app does not currently control Internet Radio. I am making a list of requested features on the roku forums, so please keep checking it where I keep you up to date what features I will get in the next version. This version is primarily to control your roku playing music from your music server.

Hope this helps and keep the ideas and comments coming :D

Hi Chris,
I have the following observations/feedback.

1. I noted when my Vista is in sleep mode (with iTunes open), Roku Remote cannot wake Vista. I have to go to Apple’s Remote to wake Vista and then use Roku Remote to connect to iTunes. Can you confirm if this is the case and is it possible to wake Vista with Roku Remote rather than go through a tedious 2 step process?.

2. This probably has nothing to do with Roku Remote.
My Pinnacle player is connected to B&O 9000. So I still have to use the B&O remote to wake B&O from standby in order to get music through the B&O speakers. It would be really nice to have Roku Remote be able to wake the B&O or is there a work around?

3. Yes, able to use Roku Remote for playing internet radio is something I really miss.

Thanks and great app.

Rgds,

Hi Reframe, thanks for buying the app

To answer your questions:

1 – RokuRemote works by connecting to your roku device and communicating with it, not your computer so there is no way to force it out of sleep im afraid.

2 – Same again, RokuRemote only talks to the roku device.

3 – Its on the requested feature list im compiling on the roku forums, shall try to get it add asap.

Thanks again

Hi Chris, Thank you sooo much for your brilliant app. In my home we have 2 Soundbridges, and the Iphone running your app is now the preffered remotecontrol ;-) I just have one requst for the future opdates. Would it be possible to create a feature that allows you to create a playlist from the app, whilst listening to music. The Module MR app for the computer has a feature like that and it really makes a smooth experience.

Thx again
